Short answer

In Clinizy Care, open Lab and choose Collection. Find the patient’s order, print a label for each tube and take the sample. Press Collect, and some tests ask you to confirm details such as fasting first. When the sample reaches the lab, press Receive. Press Reject with a reason if it is unusable.

Before you start

  • Make sure the lab order has been placed.
  • Have the collection tubes ready, and a printer for the labels.
  • For a fasting test, ask the patient if they have fasted.

Steps

  1. Open Lab from the left menu and choose Collection.

  2. Find the patient’s order. Each card lists the sample tubes that are waiting.

The Collection tab with the tab bar, a tube’s Print label button and its Collect button highlighted.
    Step 2 of 6

Tip:Urgent and STAT orders are ranked first.

  3. Press Print label beside a tube to print its barcode label.

Tip:When an order has several tubes, one button prints all its labels together.

  4. Take the sample, then press Collect.

The collection window for a fasting test, with the collection time and the Mark collected button highlighted.
    Step 4 of 6

Tip:To record the time, site or tube yourself, use the Collect with details (time, fasting, site) button.

Careful:Some tests ask you to confirm details first, such as fasting. Fill them in and press Mark collected.

  5. Press Receive when the sample reaches the lab.

Tip:To note the sample’s condition, use the Receive with specimen condition button.

Careful:A sample accepted with issues carries a caution on the report. Reject it instead if it is unsuitable.

  6. Press Reject and give a reason if a sample cannot be used.

Careful:A rejected sample cancels its tests. A new draw needs a fresh order.

If something goes wrong

Which samples stay in this list?

Samples that are waiting to be collected, and samples that are collected but not yet received. A received sample leaves the list.

What if the patient was not fasting?

You can still collect the sample. Clinizy Care warns you, and the report notes that the sample was non-fasting.

Who can collect samples?

Admins, nurses, receptionists and lab technicians can. Other roles do not see the Collection tab.
